Liz Yelling, Olympic marathon runner
As a cross-country and marathon runner Liz runs more than 100 miles per week during her training periods. The time she spends resting and sleeping is absolutely crucial to her training. It allows her body to recover from the rigours of such a regime and enables her to gain in strength, fitness and, not least, motivation!
Liz has been using a Mammoth Elite Sport mattress to help her prepare for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Liz, currently targeting the 2008 Beijing Olympics, trains for both cross-country and marathon races throughout the year, clocking up an impressive 100 – 110 miles per week.
if Liz doesn’t allow herself to rest and recover sufficiently, her performance suffers drastically
That kind of training has a massive impact on the body and if Liz doesn’t allow herself to rest and recover sufficiently, her performance suffers drastically. Rest and recovery is as vital as hard training and correct nutrition for best results.
When Liz and husband Martin first heard about the Mammoth mattress they were slightly sceptical that it could deliver the results promised. However, within a couple of nights of sleeping on the mattress they realised they hadn’t really known what a comfortable mattress was before.

Citing a number of benefits experienced while using the mattress, Liz and Martin have been particularly impressed by the support and comfort provided by the high-specification foam. As an elite athlete, it’s crucial for Liz to get a good night’s sleep, every night. With previous mattresses they had always had the problem of disturbing each other with movement during the night.
But they soon discovered that the Mammoth mattress moulds so well to one’s body and provides such steady support that they didn’t feel each other’s movement anymore, resulting in a much better night’s sleep for both of them.
My morning hip pain has disappeared leaving me refreshed and ready for training every day
Having previously experienced hip pain due to uneven pressure distribution, one of Liz’s main hopes was that the Mammoth would alleviate the pain. In turn, this would enable her to emerge from a sound night’s sleep ready and refreshed for training.
“I could tell the difference immediately – I was able to sleep on my side and the foam relieved the usual pressure. My morning hip pain has disappeared leaving me refreshed and ready for training every day,” explained Liz. “The Mammoth has now become a crucial part of my training regime and I wouldn’t be without it!”
Liz, a running ambassador for Lucozade Sport, will compete in the 2008 London Marathon in April – the qualifier for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games later this year.
